Latest risk managers sit Ferma’s rimap exam

Ferma held its latest rimap exams during the opening day of its forum yesterday, as it forges ahead with the scheme that has seen 32 risk managers certified to date. The exams, held in Monte Carlo yesterday, build on those previously run in Denmark and Italy. These online exams, which must be supervised by a Ferma-accredited authority, follow the launch of the rimap certification web system earlier this year. It offers risk managers the opportunity to study and take the exam online. Ferma is buoyed by the response to rimap. “We expect the number of people gaining certification to rimap to grow progressively. There is a demand and there was much interest for the exam on the first day of our forum,” Typhaine Beaupérin, Ferma’s CEO, told CRE. Ferma has partnered with ANZIIF, which supplies online insurance and risk management education, to deliver its online risk manager certification scheme. ANZIIF is providing the web platform, with exams scheduled every month. The next exams will be on 23 November and 14 December. Risk managers can also access education material to prepare for the exam online, with Ferma responsible for the online education and exam content, as well as approval of candidates. Some Ferma members are also organising rimap training on the ground within their home country. This forms part of Ferma’s plans to ensure national members can play a significant role in delivering rimap to their members. So while the federation explained to Commercial Risk Europe that all rimap exams will be sat online via its central platform, accredited national members are being encouraged to organise training for the exam in their home countries. They can either do this in-house or approve education providers, such as universities. “The core idea of the Ferma rimap certification remains to offer one single central online examination to interested candidates. Individual risk professionals can prepare for the exam on their own through the learning materials provided online,” explained Ms Beaupérin. “Having said that, Ferma is convinced that there is a real benefit in preparing for the examination collectively, during training courses organised by the local risk management associations. It will increase candidates’ chances of success. Therefore, if the associations wish to develop and organise a training programme to help candidates to prepare for the exam, we can only encourage them to do so. Ferma can accredit member associations based on certain conditions and at their request,” she added. Ferma is now focusing on working with its member associations to ensure they can deliver certification in their country. Spanish risk management association AGERS is the latest association to show an interest. “In Spain, AGERS is launching a risk management programme together with the University of Barcelona, which is based on our common body of knowledge and will prepare risk managers for the rimap exam. It is a really good university. So this is what we are focusing on, having already delivered the online exam,” said Ms Beaupérin. In addition, six Ferma member associations were accredited in June 2016 to deliver rimap equivalent education themselves or via specific education providers. These were Belrim, FinnRima, Anra, Marm, Polrisk and Swerma. Risk managers passing these programmes are deemed worthy of rimap certification. This system will stay in place for a transitional period of two years until May 2019, when the role of equivalence will be assessed, explained Ferma. The online exam gives candidates two hours to answer 100 questions based on the rimap body of knowledge. The fee for gaining certification is €300 for Ferma members and €450 for non-members. CPD points will also be recorded online for qualifying events and education initiatives. This system should be ready by the end of this year and will retroactively award points dating back to the Ferma seminar in Malta last October.
