Airmic and Guernsey International Insurance Association launch inaugural captive event
Captives take centre stage as risk managers invited to the free event in Guernsey
Airmic is holding its first joint event with the Guernsey International Insurance Association (GIIA) this June, which will focus on captives and geopolitical risks.
The free-to-attend conference will take place on 25 June at the island’s St Pierre Park Hotel. It will bring together risk managers, captive owners, those considering setting up a captive, brokers, board members, advisers and insurers together for discussions set around an interesting programme.
The event will be opened at a drinks reception hosted by Airmic chair Angela Lannetta on 24 June, with a full programme on 25 June followed by a summer gala dinner sponsored by Lloyd’s at Beau Sejour to mark the conference’s finale.
General Sir Richard Shirreff, former NATO deputy supreme allied commander in Europe, will deliver the keynote speech, sharing his experience leading dynamic change management with an audience of corporate leaders facing a complex set of risks. Sir Richard will also share his views on the current geopolitical landscape, having co-founded Strategia Worldwide, a global geopolitical and strategy think tank.
A plenary session in the afternoon, moderated by Airmic’s captives ambassador Richard Cutcher, will review real-world case studies from The Hut Group, Landsec and BAT, which all have captives in Guernsey.
Breakout sessions offer a range of topics for attendees to choose from:
- The Red Cross will discuss its disaster relief financing vehicle set up in Guernsey.
- EY will host a panel with its UK insurance tax leader Jenny Coletta and the director of Guernsey’s Revenue Service discussing change in the global tax environment.
- Zurich and Allianz will join a panel with McGill looking at the future of fronting and reinsurance in the context of captives.
- PwC will moderate a panel discussion on climate change and opportunities for the captive industry in contributing to the wider ESG agenda.
- Howden will run a session with Network Rail and ARM on paying claims.
- Local law firms and consultants will draw on case studies to examine the flexibility of Guernsey’s corporate structures serving captives looking to metamorphose.
- ASR Re and McGills will discuss how captives can utilise parametric insurance.
- Gallagher will focus on the practical side of cyber risk.
- Coverage Matters and Spring Insure will look at how PI and D&O coverage meets the needs of captive directors.
Julia Graham, CEO of Airmic, said: “There is a joint benefit of knowledge, understanding and sharing between Airmic and Guernsey’s insurance industry. Where else would you want to hold a joint event other than the beautiful island of Guernsey?”
GIIA will host a wellness hour before the day’s events.
GIIA chair Adele Gale said: “GIIA are delighted Airmic decided to co-host an event in Guernsey this year. Captives are part of the risk management infrastructure that businesses use to meet the challenges and opportunities of tomorrow and we hope the conference will support companies to ensure they are match fit and their captives ready to step up.”
Registration is open at Airmic & GIIA’s Guernsey Conference 2024 – The Airmic and GIIA Guernsey Conference 2024 (airmicforums.com), with half of the available spaces already booked.
