The Federation of European Risk Management Associations (FERMA) and Commercial Risk Europe, the publication for the European corporate risk and insurance management community, hosted the 2nd European Risk Management Awards programme, which took place in London on 6 November 2017.

Commercial Risk Europe was launched in 2010 to champion the cause of the corporate risk and insurance management community within Europe. FERMA brings together 22 member associations from 21 countries across Europe. Together the associations represent more than 4,700 risk and insurance managers.
To help in the common effort of further raising the profile of the important work and contribution made by the risk and insurance management community, FERMA and Commercial Risk Europe launched the European Risk Management Awards in 2016, culminating in a celebration of industry excellence, high achievement and innovation at a gala awards dinner held in Brussels in December 2016.

The European Risk Management Awards 2017 continues to seek out and recognise the highest achievers within the European risk and insurance management community and they will also highlight and reward excellence and innovation within the core service provider sector: insurers, brokers and professional service providers.

The reputation of the risk management profession has been developed over the course of many years, however for this award we are seeking to acknowledge the stars of the future and someone with a fresh view on the profession.
They will have a good knowledge and understanding of the successes of the past and the failures, but more importantly will have an appetite for innovation to address the developing needs and challenges faced by corporates in today’s rapidly changing environment. The winner of this award will be a risk manager who has less than five years’ experience as a risk management or insurance professional and who also demonstrates:

This award is open to captive management firms who are able to demonstrate outstanding service to their risk manager clients. Awarding excellence in all areas of captive management we are primarily looking to reward either a company or a team who can demonstrate an ongoing commitment to providing innovative solutions to developing or managing captive programmes and risk financing solutions through consistently high quality management and entrepreneurialism.
Candidates will need to demonstrate:

The criteria by which we assess candidates for this award are:
- Time and experience spent in the risk transfer industry
- Assess the candidate relative to peers in the industry, with achievements over and above peers in the industry
- Outstanding record of personal achievements over and above peers in the industry
- Contribution to the performance of his/her organisation
- Significant contribution to the advancement of risk management knowledge and practice
- Outstanding leadership skills.

A key differentiator of the European Risk Management Awards is that these awards are created and judged by risk managers for risk managers.
