Kevin Bates steps down from Rims board

Former risk manager Kevin Bates has stepped down from Rims’ board of directors following a job change.

Bates will join Swiss Re Corporate Solutions as country head of Australia and New Zealand on 4 November. He will succeed Christine Bell, who is retiring.

Bates was previously group head of risk and insurance for Australian construction company LendLease Corp. He joined the Rims global board of directors in 2021 and served as secretary prior to being appointed treasurer. He is a previous president of the Rims Australasia chapter.

Since his new role at Swiss Re will not include corporate risk management responsibilities, Bates is now ineligible to serve on the Rims board.

Rims board director Manny Padilla, vice-president of risk management and insurance at MacAndrews & Forbes, will serve out Bates’ term as board treasurer, Rims said.

Christy Kaufman, vice-president of property and casualty risk and compliance at USAA, will return to the Rims board to serve out Padilla’s remaining term as board secretary.
