New global group head of insurance at Fitch Ratings

Harish Gohil has been appointed to the role of global group head of insurance, Fitch Ratings, effective 1 August 2024. He will report directly to Marjan van der Weijden, Fitch’s global group head for financial institutions. Gohil succeeds Cynthia Chan, who was recently appointed as the new global head of bank ratings.

“Harish’s widely recognised insurance expertise and proven leadership of the European insurance ratings team will serve him well to lead the global team. I am confident that under his leadership, Fitch’s global insurance franchise will go from strength to strength,” said Van der Weijden.

With over 20 years’ service at Fitch, Gohil has been instrumental in building Fitch’s reputation and insurance franchise in the Middle East, said the ratings agency. He is based in the company’s London office.

Sabine Bauer has been appointed to succeed Gohil in his previous role as European head of insurance ratings, effective 1 September 2024. Since first joining Fitch in 2005, Bauer has held roles as team head for bank ratings in several countries in APAC, group credit officer for EMEA financial institutions, and most recently, as criteria officer in the criteria review approval group. Based in Stockholm, Bauer will report to Gohil.

“Sabine brings a fresh perspective to the team with broad global credit expertise. Her varied background and leadership skills will be invaluable in driving our European analytical franchise forward,” said Van der Weijden.
