Nordics come top in global cyber security poll

South American countries at bottom of list

Nordic countries Finland, Norway and Denmark ranked as the lowest risk for cyber threats, followed by Australia and the UK, in a global study from US-based cybersecurity experts MixMode. A total of six European countries took a spot in the top ten.

Bolivia polled as the highest risk country for cyber threats, followed by Honduras and Venezuela, with all facing significant cybersecurity challenges, MixMode said.

The MixMode study of cyber risk across 70 countries uses metrics on exposure, resilience and cybersecurity, combined with Comparitech, which tracks cyberattack rates, to assign each country a cyber score. Top of the ranking Finland scored 92.8, while all countries in the top 10, including the US and Japan, scored above 88. Bottom-ranking country Bolivia scored 38.39.

MixMode said the US ranked the highest in the Global Cybersecurity Index, with a perfect score of 100, but its overall score after factoring in other indexes placed it ninth.

“Understanding a country’s cybersecurity landscape is imperative for proactive risk management as cyber threats continue to evolve,” MixMode said. “While some nations excel in fortifying their defences, others face significant challenges in combating cyber threats. By leveraging insights from comprehensive indices, policymakers can formulate strategies to enhance cybersecurity resilience and mitigate risks effectively globally.”
