Nowell Seaman becomes RIMS president
Nowell Seaman has been named president of RIMS and will lead the society during 2017. Mr Seaman is director of global risk management for Potash Corporation of Saskatchewan. He has been a member of RIMS for 21 years, serving on the board of directors for nine years and having held the position of vice-president.
Mr Seaman said: “The narrative is changing. More organisations are recognising the positive side of risk. They are witnessing the power of risk management and its ability to identify new resources, new processes and new strategies that can take the organisation to new heights.”
He added: “RIMS has positioned itself as a leader in the industry. For years, it has provided practitioners with the tools and resources to advance professionally. As president, it is my goal to ensure that the society’s momentum continues forward and that, together, our global network is prepared for whatever may come next.”
Robert Cartwright, safety and health manager of Bridgestone Retail Operations, will support Mr Seaman as RIMS’ vice-president for 2017. RIMS has also named Steve Pottle, director of risk management services at York University, as treasurer and Gloria Brosius, corporate risk manager of Pinnacle Agriculture Holdings, as secretary.
Ellen Dunkin, senior vice president and CRO at Amalgamated Life Insurance Company, and Soubhagya Parija, senior vice president and CRO of New York Power Authority, have been appointed as new board members.
They join Gordon Adams of SERVCO Pacific; Emily Cummins of National Rifle Association; Barry Dillard of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts US; and Laura Langone of PayPal Inc.
