QBE appoints head of Spain and Portugal business

QBE has named Mario Díaz-Guardamino as managing director for QBE Iberia, leading the insurer’s strategy for growth in the Spanish and Portuguese insurance markets. Díaz-Guardamino joins QBE from AIG, where he was head of EMEA trade credit insurance.

QBE said its focus for QBE Iberia will be on corporate and middle market business, multinational programmes, construction and sustainable energy.

Díaz-Guardamino will take up the post at the end of this year, reporting to Beatriz Valenti, director of insurance, QBE Europe.

Valenti said the appointment underlines QBE’s ambition to strengthen its position in the Spanish and Portuguese markets.

“We are positive that under his leadership we will continue to drive innovation, offering new insurance propositions while maintaining our commitment to providing best-in-class service to our clients and brokers,” Valenti said.
