Senior appointments in Canada for Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance

Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI) in Canada has appointed Andrew Knight as country manager, Amanda Sorsak as head of claims, and Paul Emerson as head of customer & broker engagement. All three will continued to be based in Toronto.

Knight will oversee BHSI’s expansion into new customer market segments, products, and distribution channels in Canada. In her new role, Sorsak will oversee both first- and third-party claims.

Knight joined BHSI in 2016 as head of financial institutions, executive & professional lines in Canada and was promoted to head of executive & professional lines in 2021. He will retain this role while also assuming the newly created position of country manager. He has more than 20 years of industry experience.

Sorsak was previously head of first-party claims in Canada. She joined BHSI in 2015 as head of property, energy & marine claims, and has nearly 20 years of industry experience. Emerson was previously head of third-party claims and has transitioned full time to his role as head of customer & broker engagement in Canada. He joined BHSI in 2015 as head of liability claims and has more than two decades of industry experience.

In Canada, BHSI underwrites property, casualty, marine, surety and E&P lines, and provides multinational programmes through its office in Toronto and a recently opened office in Calgary.
