Allied World launch new SME product as corporate world revolves

The company said that products were produced to provide comprehensive professional liability coverage and on-going claims support to a diverse spectrum of businesses in the U.K. and wider European Union. SME360 comprises 11 core professional indemnity products that are segmented by industry. These include architects, accountants, actuaries, design and construction, engineers, information technology, insurance brokers, management consultants, media, miscellaneous and surveyors. Allied World also said that the new range also introduces additional coverages including directors & officers, crime, pension trustee liability, non-profit/charity liability, LLP and partnership liability, fortress (a blend of D&O/EPL/entity) and management liability (a blend of D&O/PTL/EPL /entity/crime) coverage.hideThe maximum limit on professional indemnity products is £5,000,000, the maximum limit for non-professional indemnity products is £10,000,000 and the maximum limit for blended D&O and professional indemnity products is £5,000,000. Kevin Cleary, Vice President, SME, Professional Lines in Europe who joined Allied World in February, said: "Our team has extensive experience underwriting these lines in the London and extended United Kingdom marketplace, and we are excited about the opportunities in this market segment." Liberty International Underwriters in Europe (LIU Europe), a division of Liberty Mutual Group, has appointed Michael Weesbach as Casualty Manager for its operations in Germany. Mr. Weesbach is based in Cologne and reports to Dr. Wolfgang Weis, Branch Manager for Cologne and Executive Officer Northern Europe. His task is to build a book of casualty business in Germany . Mr. Weesbach has held senior underwriting roles over a twenty year insurance career, underwriting insurance for international programmes and large international clients. Gerard van Loon, Managing Director, LIU Europe’s Continental European Operations, said: “We have had financial lines underwriters in Germany since 2003 and the addition of casualty is a natural progression of the business. Offering casualty broadens our offering to brokers and further illustrates our commitment to growing our continental Europe operations.” The appointment follows LIU Europe’s recruitment of Christopher Holborn as Casualty Manager Continental Europe last year. Brit Insurance, the Netherlands-based insurance group that recently relocated its headquarters from London, has announced the appointment of Ferdinand Voskens as General Manager in its Netherlands head office. He reports to Peter Goddard, Commercial Director. Mr. Voskens will be responsible for the management of the Amsterdam office as well as the overall management of Brit Insurance’s intra-Group reinsurance operation, Brit Insurance (Gibraltar) PCC Limited. CNA Europe has moved its European headquarters and London Market operations to the London Underwriting Centre in the insurance centre of London. CNA Europe said that it has expanded its product offering and talent base ‘considerably’ over the last few years, and this move enables it to continue to grow its presence in London and continental Europe. More than 100 of CNA Europe’s London staff will now be based in the single office. “Bringing our London-based operations together at Minster Court moves us physically closer to our London distribution partners and to our box at Lloyd’s,” said John Hennessy, Chief Executive Officer, CNA Europe. QBE, the Australian insurance group. has announced the appointment of Esther Felton as Head of Legal for its European Operations, a move that it said is part of its ongoing drive to develop its dedicated in-house legal capabilities. Ms. Felton joined QBE in 2006 from law firm Norton Rose, where she worked for five years in the non-contentious insurance team. During that time she was closely involved in numerous transactions for QBE. Ms. Felton takes over the role from Adrian Williams, who leaves to join Irish law firm Matheson Ormsby Prentice. Steven Burns, Chief Executive Officer, QBE European Operations, said, “We place enormous value on our in-house legal resource, which provides on the ground, commercially focused legal advice from colleagues who have a true understanding of the landscape of our business and, at a time when we are looking to invest and develop our legal capability, Esther’s experience and knowledge of our business will be invaluable.” QBE also announced the appointment of Judy Holt to the newly created role of Manager, Broker Development, to support the expansion of its U.K. and Irish business. Ms. Holt reports to Chris Wallace, Head of U.K. & Europe Broker Development. She joins QBE from Allianz, where she worked for a decade and was most recently Strategic Account Manager with overall responsibility for the growth of the national broker channel. This appointment follows the strategic reorganisation of QBE’s distribution channels, which saw National (U.K. & Ireland), London Market and Europe brought into one central platform headed by Terry Whittaker and National divided into North and South under Elliot Miller and Pat Wood. XL Insurance, the global insurance operations of XL Capital Ltd, has announced the expansion of its Financial Institutions team, which provides professional liability coverage for hedge funds, asset managers, private equity firms, insurance companies and banks. Emma Knowles has joined from Liberty International where she was Senior Underwriter for Financial Institutions. Eve Coen joins from Munich Re, having previously worked as a professional lines underwriter for AIG in London and Dublin. XL Insurance set up its dedicated Financial Institutions team in January this year to meet the growing demand for this type of cover. The arrival of underwriters Emma Knowles and Eve Coen brings the team in London to seven.
