Clyde & Co boosts Madrid office with financial lines partner

Clyde & Co has appointed financial lines expert Susana Martínez as partner in Madrid, in a move that the law firm said will strengthen its global insurance group.

It is Clyde & Co’s second financial lines hire this year, following the appointment of Stacey Rufe in Washington last month.

Martínez joins Clyde & Co from Kennedys, where she was head of financial lines and cyber for Latin America and the Caribbean.

Martínez’s practice focuses on advice, coverage disputes and defence of complex cases on behalf of insurers, reinsurers and brokers in financial lines.

Ignacio Figuerol, a partner at Clyde & Co, said businesses and their insurers have seen an increase in exposure to financial lines risks.

“As commerce has become increasingly globalised and interconnected, we are seeing multinational companies and their foreign directors and officers facing a much harder liability, legal and regulatory environment in many foreign jurisdictions, which in turn leads to a harder market for D&O insurers and reinsurers,” Figuerol said.

Adding: “This global exposure requires a global approach from law firms, and through Susana’s arrival we are deepening the expertise we can offer to clients wherever they need us.”
