Clyde & Co has hired partner David Kerwin, who joins the firm’s national insurance group, based in Brisbane. Clyde & Co said he will add depth to its property and business interruption offering, and he will be key in executing the firm’s commitment to the SME market.
According to Clyde & Co, Mr Kerwin brings expertise in handling complex (and often novel) matters involving property risks, financial lines, D&O liability, professional indemnity, policy coverage and defence health/life insurance lines. He is an experienced litigator and widely recognised for his technical skills, commerciality and practical approach.
“David also offers deep insight into and practical experience of the London markets – gained in part from [previously] working in the UK for five years at Clyde & Co and from continuing to service London market clients and Lloyd’s syndicates. He also acts for international and domestic composite insurers,” said Clyde & Co.
He joins from Barry.Nilsson and is the incumbent president of the Queensland chapter of the Australian Professional Indemnity Group. He brings with him an experienced team, including special counsels Stefanie Luhrs and Ewa Cholinska, senior associate Simone Shepherd and associates Patrick Johnson and Mitchell Page.
Lucinda Lyons, Clyde & Co partner and head of insurance in Australia, commented: “David is a strong addition to our team in Brisbane and is well known to us, having spent his formative years here. David’s property expertise adds further strength to the support we can offer clients as they continue to recover from the impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic and prepare for its longer-term implications.”
Mr Kerwin added: “Having been part of the Clyde & Co team earlier in my career, I am well aware of the firm’s leadership position in Brisbane and the broader Australian insurance market, and the benefits of a truly global platform. Returning to the firm will take my practice to the next level.”
