Airmic set to expand technical team To help keep pace with an expansion in its technical output Airmic will for the first time appoint a research and development (R&D) manager. The new recruit, who is yet to be appointed, will report to the association's technical director Paul Hopkin. Airmic's current technical agenda has seventeen projects coming to fruition during 2014, including the publication of Roads to Resilience, a guide to insurance efficacy, the delivery of a global compliance database for insurance programmes, career development advice for risk managers and its biennial salary and status survey. Chris Johnson, previously senior vice president, division manager for Asia/Pacific, has become senior vice president, division manager for the EMEA region. Based in FM Global's Windsor, UK office, he succeeds Kenneth Davey who retired after 40 years with FM Global. Mr Johnson will oversee all client relations, underwriting, engineering, processing and administration for the division. Stefano Tranquillo moves from his position as vice president and manager of northern Europe operations to fill the position vacated by Mr Johnson as senior vice president, division manager, Asia/Pacific. He will be based in Singapore. Philip Johnson has been named vice president and manager for FM Global's northern Europe operations. He was previously operations vice president, business process improvement and client service manager. Mr Johnson will oversee the delivery of products and services for business in the UK, Nordic countries, the Netherlands, the Middle East and South Africa. He will also be based in the company's Windsor, UK office. Catlin launches Singapore branch Catlin has established a Singapore branch to write direct specialty lines in the country and reinsurance throughout the Asia-Pacific region. Catlin's Singapore office was established following approval on 23 December, 2013 by the Monetary Authority of Singapore. The new branch commenced operations on 1 January, 2014 and will be managed by Catlin Singapore Pte Ltd, Catlin's current Singapore-based underwriting operation. Catlin has been underwriting local and regional business from its Singapore office since 1999 on behalf of Catlin's syndicate at Lloyd's of London. The new branch allows Catlin Singapore to write business on behalf of either it or the Lloyd's Syndicate, depending on broker or client preference. The licence granted to the Singapore branch covers all lines of business currently underwritten by Catlin in the Asia-Pacific region. Focus areas for the new branch include: Treaty Reinsurance Accident and Health Property Aviation War and Terrorism Casualty and Financial Lines Energy Credit and Political Risk Marine Construction and Engineering
