Lockton makes key appointments to Global Technology and Privacy Practice Lockton has made changes to its Global Technology and Privacy Practice with key staff appointments in London, Washington and Denver. The move is designed to support clients on cyber liability and related risk management issues. Steve Bonnington will join the practice in January as leader of the London team. He previously led Zurich's Professional and Financial Lines operation in Australia. He has also worked with Aon, Willis and AIG in London. Ben Beeson, Global Practice Leader, is relocating to Washington to work more closely with Lockton's clients and prospects in the US.hideHe has led Lockton's Global Technology and Privacy Practice for the past three years and has been with the broker since 2007. Florence Levy will join Lockton as leader of the US practice team. She will be based in the broker's Denver office. Ms Levy has previously led Aon's Commercial E&O and Cyber Practice in the US. Commenting on the moves, Lockton Companies LLP Board Member Neil Nimmo said: "I am delighted to announce the strengthening and expansion of our Privacy Practice. Lockton's success has been built on its ability to attract the very best talent to serve its clients. Ben has built our cyber liability team into an industry leader. Florence and Steve are amongst the best practitioners in the global marketplace." IRM shakes up board: re-elects chair Anderson The Institute of Risk Management (IRM) has elected two new board members and announced two new deputy chairs. Richard Anderson has also been re-elected as chairman of the board for a third one-year term. Jeremy Harrison, Director at Faithfields and former Head of Project Risk and Value Management at Network Rail, and José Morago, Group Risk Director, Aviva, have been appointed as deputy chairmen of the IRM with immediate effect. Nicola Crawford and Dr Keith Smith have been elected to its board of directors. Ms Crawford has been an IRM member for eight years. She has a background in strategic planning and marketing, as well as management experience. She actively promotes the IRM in Turkey in her capacity as chair of the IRM Turkey Regional Group. She is also an active member of the IRM's audit and risk committee. Dr Smith has extensive experience as a risk manager. He served as an assistant examiner for the IRM from 2009 to 2012 and continues to contribute to its thought leadership work with research and chapter authorship. Re-elected Mr Anderson is Managing Director, UK, at Crowe Horwath Global Risk Consulting. IRM Chief Executive Steve Fowler commented: "Jeremy and José have been longstanding supporters of the institute. They bring with them experience and enthusiasm to support Richard in leading the board over the coming year. We are delighted that Richard has been elected IRM chairman for a third term. He has been instrumental in driving forward a number of thought leadership projects and supported IRM to position risk management as a key issue at board level." Richard Anderson said he is delighted that the board has asked him to remain in place as chairman for an additional year. "With the recent publication of the draft guidance on risk management from the UK Financial Reporting Council there can be little doubt as to the importance of risk management to good corporate governance, as well as to day-by-day management. By focusing on the future instead of the past it is the role of the risk professional to help their organisations to navigate uncertain futures. In a rapidly changing world this is critical to all organisations whether in the public, private or third sectors," he said. He moved to thank Alex Hindson, his predecessor as chairman, and Alyson Pepperill, former IRM deputy chair, both of whom have stepped down from the IRM board. "Both have put considerable efforts into the institute and both have made an immeasurable contribution to the board. In their place, I welcome Dr Keith Smith and Nicola Crawford, both very experienced risk professionals," said Mr Anderson. Colemont Finland Oy acquisition adds to Howden's Nordic capabilities Howden Broking Group, part of the Hyperion Insurance Group, has acquired a majority share in Finnish broker Colemont Finland Oy. Colemont Finland Oy specialises in corporate, aviation, marine and real estate business. Jorma Hakonen will continue to lead the operation as Managing Director. He will work closely with Howden Finland's Managing Director, Pasi Heikkinen, who takes on an executive role in the newly merged company. Tim Coles, CEO of Howden Broking Group, commented: "Adding Colemont Finland to our Nordic operation hugely complements our aspirations to deliver pan-Nordic capabilities to our clients. Colemont Finland is extremely well respected in the industry and is recognised for its leading insurance sector real estate capabilities. Under Jorma's leadership the operation has developed into a 50-strong team with solid casualty, marine and aviation experience, in addition to its outstanding real estate arm. With a retail strategy that brings the complementary skills of our Nordic teams together we can ensure we remain strongly equipped to deliver for our clients across the region." Howden has Nordic operations in Helsinki, Stockholm, Oslo and Reykjavik. Canopius focuses on International Liability offering with Pooley appointment Canopius has appointed Andrew Pooley as Head of its International Liability Insurance line. He takes up his position with immediate effect and will report to Graeme Brydon, Divisional Underwriter, Casualty. Mr Pooley brings over 25 years' underwriting experience to the role. He will be responsible for the development of a portfolio of both binder and open market International Liability business including the Canadian, Australian, UK and European markets. Mr Brydon said on his appointment: "Andrew brings a wealth of experience that will be invaluable in the development of our International Liability line. His portfolio will enhance our product line capabilities and provide our clients with further cross class solutions. His appointment reflects our ambitions to grow the Casualty book and, more broadly, our Global Specialty business." US Risk launches MGA Lime Underwriting with financial lines focus US Risk (UK), which owns Oxford Insurance Brokers and James Hampden International, has launched a new Lloyd's Managing General Agent, Lime Underwriting. With capacity from Lloyd's syndicates and non-Lloyd's insurers it will initially concentrate on the UK and international financial lines sectors. Areas of focus will include professional indemnity, directors and officers, management liability, pension trustees liability and commercial crime, in both the regional and London markets. Jonathan Morgan and Lindsay Noble have joined to start the company. They have responsibilities for developing broker relationships and underwriting respectively. Mr Morgan has over 25 years' experience in the specialty lines market, having worked in the US, Switzerland and both London and regional markets. Ms Noble has over 20 years' experience in the financial lines market and has established and managed regional financial lines teams dealing with both regional and London brokers. She was a founder member of the PRI Group Plc and has previously worked for Novae, RSA, Markel and Brit. Mike Lobb, Chief Executive Officer, US Risk (UK) said: "Launching Lime Underwriting fits very well with our strategic intentions to develop and grow our MGA platform globally within the group. Our shareholders, US Risk Inc, are the eighth largest MGA in the US and BP Marsh has a vast amount of knowledge in investing and building global MGA platforms so it seemed logical to use this experience." Brokers will be able to trade with Lime Underwriting through its automated underwriting and distribution platform, created in partnership with ViPR, the IT software solutions provider for the insurance industry. It allows brokers to generate and issue quotations and policy documents from their own offices.
