Denise Jagger joins board of Pool Re Denise Jagger, a senior corporate finance lawyer and partner at Eversheds LLP, will join UK terrorism reinsurer Pool Re as a non-executive director, subject to regulatory approval. Ms Jagger has many years' experience of industry, having been a board member of several successful enterprises and an active member of the CBI. Her career has included eleven years in retail, serving on the Executive Committee of ASDA Group plc and subsequently as part of Walmart.hidePool Re chairman Tony Latham welcomed Ms Jagger's appointment. "As well as having a fine legal brain, Denise has experienced the realities of commercial life from the end-customer's perspective, and I am sure her insights and support will be of great value," he said. Pool Re is a mutual reinsurer that provides terrorism cover for commercial property. Its members include the vast majority of property insurers active in the UK market. Canopius adds to Singapore team as it focuses on specialty insurance Canopius Group Ltd has made three senior appointments to its Singapore platform as part of expansion plans in Asia with a focus on specialty insurance business. David Gregori has been appointed Head of Agriculture and will take up his position in January 2014. His appointment expands the underwriting scope of Canopius' global property unit with the introduction of a new specialist class of business. Mr Gregori will have a global role but his initial focus will be on Asia Pacific. He has a background in actuarial science and agronomy with seven years' experience of agriculture and weather risk underwriting. He will join from PartnerRe in Paris where he held the position of Deputy Team Leader and Senior Underwriter, Specialty Lines, Agriculture. Jonathan Goh will also join Canopius in late November as Regional Crisis Management Underwriter to develop Canopius' political risks and crisis management underwriting in Asia. In this role he will work closely with Simon Low, Divisional Underwriter, Political Risk and Crisis Management in London. Mr Goh currently holds the position of Assistant Director, Credit, Political & Security Risks at Jardine Lloyd Thompson, working in Hong Kong, Singapore and the UK. Tan Yew Ming joined Canopius on 4 November to take up the position of Regional Head of Actuarial. In this role he will support Canopius' strategic expansion in the region through development and application of catastrophe modelling and pricing tools. He is a qualified actuary with 15 years' industry experience. Previous roles include Regional Manager and Treaty Pricing Actuary for Allianz Re and Actuarial Manager for NTUC Income. Linus Phoon, Chief Executive of Canopius Asia said: "These appointments represent a significant step in Canopius Asia's strategy to diversify beyond treaty reinsurance underwriting and to write more specialty insurance business. The addition of these highly qualified specialists to our team supports our vision of targeting growth across classes and the region as demand for insurance continues to accelerate in Asia." Canopius Asia was formed in 2008 to underwrite regional treaty reinsurance. To date its insurance underwriting has focused on cargo, ancillary marine hull and construction lines, plus support for the Xin terrorism consortium. Gard launches ship managers' liability cover In response to liabilities arising from negligence in performing contracted duties Gard has launched a ship manager liability policy. The new cover will supply ship managers with financial protection, claims handling and legal assistance. Andre Kroneberg, Vice President for Product Development at Gard, said: "This policy is in response to what we saw as a market need for comprehensive and transparent cover for ship managers." "Our main objective at Gard is always to help our members and clients manage their exposures to existing and developing risks. This policy is yet another extension to the Gard portfolio, responding to the range of special needs and requirements of different parts of the marine industry," he added.
