HDI enters US surety and Asian accident and health markets
HDI Global has entered the US surety market through the acquisition of Indiana Lumbermens Insurance, and the Asian accident health market with the appointment of Lisa Leow as underwriter in the region.
The terms of the deal for Indiana Lumbermens Insurance, a unit of Pennsylvania Lumbermens Mutual Insurance, were not disclosed.
“The licenses will allow us to organically expand our specialty lines product portfolio in the world’s largest specialty insurance market,” said Ralph Beutter, CEO of HDI Global Specialty.
HDI Global now has two admitted units and one non-admitted unit in the US.
Meanwhile, HDI Global Singapore has appointed Leow from Starr Insurance, where she was head of accident and health. Lowe, who has previously worked for QBE Asia, Zurich and AIG, will begin writing accident and health cover for her new employer from Singapore.
This new line of business adds to its property, casualty, engineering, marine cargo, power and energy, and political and credit risk offering in Asia.
HDI’s managing director and principal officer in Singapore, Graham Silton, said: “I am delighted to welcome Lisa to HDI. With her proven track record and capabilities, she will be invaluable to the business as we enter the Asian accident and health market. I am very much looking forward to working with Lisa as we expand our product offering to our clients and brokers across the region.”
