New head for XL Catlin’s APAC energy, property and construction team
XL Catlin has appointed Todd Wilhelm as the regional product leader for its energy, property and construction division in Asia-Pacific.
Mr Wilhelm will be based in Singapore and charged with growing the unit ahead of the much anticipated Chinese ‘Belt and Road’ initiative, which is expected to generate more than $4trn worth of infrastructure projects across the region.
Mr Wilhelm joins from QBE, where he was chief underwriting operations officer and head of property and engineering, emerging markets. Prior to QBE, Mr Wilhelm had worked at ACE Insurance and FM Global in a career that spans more than 25 years in the insurance industry.
“We’re delighted to welcome Todd to the team,” said Ian France, head of international property underwriting for XL Catlin. “With his considerable underwriting experience across multi-lines in Asia-Pacific, Todd is ideally positioned to look at opportunities and solutions that will make a difference to our clients in the region.”
Craig Langham, chief executive, Asia-Pacific, insurance, referenced the positive prospects for construction in the region and the positive economic forecasts, which Mr Wilhelm will be expected to capitalise upon in his new role.
“Projects such as construction, utilities and infrastructure are growing in size and complexity, with risks that are very much interconnected. When taking on these projects, companies are increasingly looking to work with insurance partners to address and manage their risks,” said Mr Langham.
“It’s therefore crucial to have the right expertise in place to tailor solutions for these clients. Todd’s appointment reflects our continued commitment to investing in the best talent to support companies in Asia-Pacific.”
