Parima expands to Japan, Thailand and Myanmar; appoints executive director

The fast-growing Asian corporate risk management association is now present in 12 Asian countries as the three newcomers are added to existing board members in Singapore, Hong Kong, China, India, Indonesia, Vietnam, Philippines, Taiwan and Malaysia. The association also announced the addition of three new board members in Singapore bringing the total of new faces on the board to six. Do not be surprised to see an Australian board member appointed soon as the existing Australian risk management association.hideParima already has 50 Australian members and the community is thought to be up to 400 strong. This suggests that Australia would be fertile ground for the rapidly growing association. Now that Japan is represented on the Parima board the big missing Asia Pacific economy is of course South Korea. But Parima chairman Franck Baron recently told Commercial Risk Asia that this will probably not happen soon. “Korea will be more long-term for us,” he said. Mr Baron and his fast expanding team of board members have exciting and ambitious plans. They want to make sure that Parima is active in all its territories and the number one focus for next year will be the introduction of an Asian risk management certification scheme, based on the one recently launched at the Federation of European Risk Management Associations (Ferma) Forum in Venice, Italy. This will be no simple task and the full time risk managers that run Parima need help to ensure that the certification scheme is launched and is up to scratch and Parima is able to deliver the goods for its 500 plus membership that grows on a daily basis. Mr Baron was therefore last month delighted to announce the appointment of an executive director to manage the process on a day-to-day basis and support the volunteer board. Stacey Huang is responsible for setting up and implementing the strategies and programmes planned and is also in charge of the day-to-day operations. Ms Huang is a management consultant who started out in Accenture, and has consulted many companies, helping to manage their transformation and growth agenda. Her expertise includes project management, change management, organisational design, engagement, communications, process improve-ment as well as learning and development. In her consulting roles, she has worked across multiple industries, countries and cultures, having spent time in Kenya, London, Hong Kong and Singapore. She has worked with companies in both the private and public sector where she has clients from insurance, finance, FMCG, oil & gas, and healthcare. Stacey has a double degree in business and psychology from Singapore Management University and a Master’s degree in industrial and organisational psychology from University College London (UCL) where she graduated with distinction. To help drive Parima’s growth in the Japanese market, Ms Huang will be supporting new board director Takashi Kubo, Managing Executive Officer, SVP, Logistics & IMT at INPEX, Japan’s largest oil and gas exploration company. Mr Kubo joined INPEX in April 1981 and after his initial assignment in logistics organisation of various oil and gas fields in Japan, he developed his career in logistics, procurement, contract and cost and schedule control through INPEX global oil & gas exploration and development operations in Indonesia, Australia and Iran. In addition to the above opera-tional roles, he has been in charge of INPEX information management systems and insurance including its captive management. Currently, he is responsible for project management, insurance and IT of the company for its domestic and international activities. The recent Thai growth will be led by new board member Supaporn Chatchaisaeng, Senior Vice President, Insurance Office at CP Group, Thailand, one of the world’s largest conglomerates that consists of three core businesses: agribusiness and food, retail and distribution and telecommunication. Its head office is in Thailand and it has investment in over 20 countries. Jagath Guru, Head of Risk Management, Internal Controls and Processes, Myanmar Brewery Limited, is the new board member for Myanmar. Mr Guru, a Malaysian, has been at the brewing firm since December 2012. As well as the management of the firm’s risk management portfolio he also oversees credit control and plays a key role in crisis management and ensures that key business continuity planning programmes are carried out on an annual basis. Mr Guru has over 20 years’ experience in the field of internal audit and risk management. Another new board member is Paul Clarke, Global Head of Change – Risk & Compliance, Platts, Singapore, part of the McGraw Hill financial group that owns Standard & Poor’s credit rating agency. Mr Clarke is a long-term Singapore resident. He arrived in 1996 with Marsh after an initial career start in Boston and London. He later founded the risk consulting division for JLT Asia, developing it into a profitable business unit. Much of Mr Clarke’s career has been spent providing advice to large Asian corporates and global multinationals on their risk management and finance issues. Mr Clarke has supported the Asia risk community through his leadership of the ‘Asia Risk Council’, an early forerunner of Parima, as guest lecturer to risk management courses, and mentor to aspiring young professionals. Gordon Song is SVP, Head of Group Risk & Internal Audit at Lazada Group, the Singapore-based privately owned e-commerce group that operates Southeast Asia’s number one online Shopping Mall in Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. Mr Song has more than 11 years of experience in enterprise risk management and corporate governance. He started his career with a professional consulting firm providing risk advisory services to government, healthcare and real estate clients in Singapore and the neighbouring region. Gordon moved to an in-house role heading the risk function with Fortis Healthcare, and subsequently to Tigerair, where he headed the risk and internal audit department. Maxwell Davis, Enterprise Risk Manager - Asia Pacific at Rolls-Royce, Singapore, is the third new Singapore-based board member of Parima. Mr Davis joined Rolls-Royce in 2008 and has been enterprise risk manager covering Asia Pacific, based in Singapore, since 2012. Mr Davis is also a key member of the risk and compliance governance structure for Rolls-Royce Singapore. Before coming to Singapore, Mr Davis was project manager for new services development in Civil Aerospace, based in Derby UK. He worked closely with Boeing, Airbus, Aircelle and Goodrich. Some of the key Rolls-Royce Aerospace customers included British Airways, Virgin Atlantic, Singapore Airlines and Thai Airways.
