Risk Frontiers Europe 2023

This year’s Risk Frontiers Europe survey, sponsored by HDI Global and Charles Taylor, has been a fascinating journey across a continent that is beset by seemingly endless crises that demand serious and immediate risk responses. The good news is that all the roundtables and individual interviews with leading members of Europe’s risk and insurance management associations that comprise the Ferma membership revealed a community up for the challenge.

They were quick to point to the positives to emerge from the recent string of crises, such as a much sharper c-suite focus on risk management and more central and higher-level roles played by individual risk and insurance managers. The rise of ESG has played a part in this too.

Governments and supervisors are also becoming more aware of the need for more robust risk identification, measurement and transfer. Opinion and understanding of the value of structured and forward-looking risk and insurance management remains patchy at the highest level, but encouraging progress is seen.
