Sompo International names Thaker UK commercial CEO in reshuffle

Sompo International has named Bob Thaker as CEO of commercial P&C insurance for the UK, heading up a new leadership team.

Sompo International said the reshuffle had been put in place “to drive future growth and expansion” of its UK commercial book.

Ian Keegan will head the firm’s London market wholesale and specialty division, and Mike Reid will lead the UK commercial lines division, with both reporting to Thaker.

Thaker, previously CEO of Hiscox UK until the end of 2021, joined Sompo in March this year. He will also be appointed CEO of Sompo International UK’s legal entity, with Keegan appointed as chief underwriting officer. Thaker will report to Julian James, CEO of global markets for Sompo International.

James said the changes will support growth in the UK market: “Sompo International has a strong presence in the London market and a growing footprint across the UK. With a dedicated Sompo UK leadership team, we can more seamlessly execute on our strategy and get closer to our broker partners and clients across the UK to provide solutions that are more aligned with their needs.”

“We continue to simplify our structure while ensuring consistency in our underwriting appetite and risk controls across our commercial insurance businesses in Global Markets,” he added.
