The Xmas wish list
Well, just like an insurance regulatory database, International Programme News can help remove some of the uncertainty, the time-consuming effort and administrative burden, by providing a generic list for corporate risk professionals everywhere:
- 1. An insurance regulatory database: Not any old one (and there are quite a few on offer now) but one that doesn’t come with caveats and disclaimers, or ‘grey’ areas.
- 2. A plain speaking, one page guide to Solvency II, without jargon or words with more than eight syllables, and without the words ‘calibration’, ‘internal model’ and endless Pillars.
- 3. A meeting with someone from the IAIS who actually understands what DIC/DIL means.
- 4. A crystal ball (obviously).
- 5. More Air Miles per mile actually travelled.
- 6. The level of respect and understanding that people in the banking industry get, despite everything that has gone on since 2007.
- 7. A country (just one, anywhere), just for once, to reduce Insurance Premium Tax rather than constantly increasing it.
- 8. An end to January renewals. No-one likes them. And who’s bright idea was it to have them on January 1? I mean, just after the Xmas holiday and the day after New Year’s Eve?
- 9. Better conference goodies. We’ve all got drawers full of USB drives, mobile phone chargers, mouse mats, travel plugs and note pads. Even the nice Moleskine ones.
- 10. A place on the board. Or access to someone on the board. Or a presentation to the board.

Have a great festive season and New Year, and I hope your Xmas wishes come true (but I’m not holding my breath).
