Time to dig deeper
Welcome to the first issue of Commercial Risk Europe – UK, the first of our monthly national newsletters dedicated to the information needs of our risk and insurance management readership across Europe and worldwide.
Commercial Risk Europe was launched back in 2010 to provide the whole European risk and insurance management community with a dedicated central information source, to help it do a better job and challenge the insurance sector to come up with the innovative and customer-focused products and services that it needs.
We have remained committed to this goal during the past decade.
We have worked closely with the Federation of European Risk Management Associations (Ferma) and the national associations that comprise its membership, to make sure that we carry the flag for risk and insurance managers all over Europe through a single intelligence and events resource.
It has been clear to us for some time, however, that while the pan-European nature of CRE remains as valid as ever and the publication continues to attract new readers across the continent and internationally, there remain significant differences in the way that risk and insurance management operates and is treated across Europe.
We decided that CRE needed to be supported by a range of nationally-focused monthly newsletters that would enable us to dig far deeper into the topics that really matter for our risk and insurance manager readership across Europe.
It was also clear that while English is, for now, the dominant international business language, the growing interest in professional risk and insurance management in the middle market across Europe demands a multilingual approach.
Following the recent acquisition of Commercial Risk by Beacon International (also owner of Business Insurance in the US, Asian Insurance Review and Middle East Insurance Review), we have the opportunity to invest in the skilled and experienced local editorial staff to make this happen.
So, we start with Commercial Risk Europe – UK, sharply focused on the information needs of risk and insurance managers in the UK middle and larger corporate market.
Next will come Commercial Risk Europe – Deutschland to serve the German-speaking markets in their own language, then Commercial Risk Europe – Italia and others throughout the year.
After much consultation with the various risk and insurance management communities across Europe, it is clear to us that, while there may be healthy national general insurance market publications in all major European countries, there is little dedicated news and intelligence for the serious manager of corporate risk and insurance in this market.
These national publications dip in and out of our market for major industry events but do not provide the consistent and regular in-depth and expert coverage that this community needs on a national as well as pan-European and international basis.
Hence the arrival of CRE – UK as the first of our range of national publications in the local language.
We have hired Ireland-based Nicholas Pratt, a highly experienced risk, finance and technology journalist, and a consistent and long-term contributor to CRE, as dedicated editor of CRE – UK. You may look forward to hearing from him in the coming months and I urge you to give him the open and honest views that you have given to us all at CRE since launch.
Nicholas will be joined by a new team of national editors across Europe as we roll out the new national newsletters during this year. This is a significant investment for us and we hope that it is worth the effort for you.
We find ourselves in a historic moment of change – economically, politically and socially.
Our goal is to help you, the people responsible for making sure that organisations across Europe make the right risk-based decisions required to rise up to the challenges presented by this era, to make the correct calls.
Enjoy the read and, as ever, your feedback is welcome.
