Risk management community mourns the death of former Ferma president Jorge Luzzi
International risk management association IFRIMA has announced the passing away of board member Jorge Luzzi, who was for decades a trailblazer for the development of risk management in Europe and Latin America.
Luzzi was the chairman of IFRIMA between 2008 and 2010 and also led Ferma for almost three years in the early 2010s.
“Jorge was not only a distinguished figure within the risk and insurance industry but also an exemplary leader,” IFRIMA said in a statement. “His contributions were invaluable, and his absence will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing him.”
Ferma said Luzzi’s dedication to the risk management profession was “unparalleled”.
Typhaine Beaupérin, CEO of Ferma, said: “Jorge was truly one of a kind. His unwavering commitment to supporting the risk manager community and his zest for life were unmatched. A tireless advocate for risk management and our associations, Jorge’s sudden departure leaves a void in our risk management family. His legacy, particularly through his dedicated service to Ferma, will endure, but his presence will be sorely missed.”
Born in Italy, Luzzi was an ambassador of risk management across two continents. Between 2004 and 2007, he was the president of ABGR, Brazil’s risk management association. In the same period, he led Alarys, an association of Latin American risk management organisations. He has also been the chairman of Apogeris, Portugal’s risk management association, since 2018.
In the corporate world, Luzzi took several risk and insurance management positions at Pirelli, the Italian car parts group, across more than two decades, starting in 1998. He was also a board member at Telecom Italia.
Since 2013, Luzzi was the CEO of RCG Powered by Herco, a risk consultancy focused on Portugal, Brazil, Angola and other countries, part of the MDS Group.
“The MDS family and the risk management world become poorer with the passing of Jorge Luzzi”, the company expressed in a statement.
